About the speaker. U.S. Army Major Jeff Struecker is a decorated military veteran who played a prominent role in the blood-chilling rescue effort in Mogadishu, Somalia, East Africa that rescued downed helicopter crewmen and secured the capture of genocidal warlord, Mohamed Farrah Aidid. This dangerous 1993 rescue mission was later portrayed in the national bestseller book and movie, Black Hawk Down.
In the streets of Mogadishu, (then) Sergeant Struecker faced his greatest fears. He was forced to rely on his skills and deep faith to bring him through some of the most intense combat the U.S. Military had seen since the Vietnam War. Today, he challenges and inspires audiences with the gripping account of his experience under fire and in the face of imminent death.
His combat experience includes Operation Just Cause in Panama; Operation Iris Gold in Kuwait; Operation Gothic Serpent, UNOSOM II, in Mogadishu, Somalia; Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan; and Operation Iraqi Freedom. His awards for actions in these danger zones include the Southwest Asia Service Medal (1 Service Star), Kuwaiti Liberation Medal, GlobalWar on Terrorism Service Medal, GlobalWar on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (2nd Award), National Defense Service Medal and the Bronze Star Medal (with V Device for valor, 3rd award).
Commissioned in 2000 and now serving as an Army Chaplain, Jeff has been married to his wife Dawn for fifteen years. They have five children: Aaron, Jacob, Joseph, Abigail, and Lydia.
